Hooked on Seismic in Mong Kok

I went in Hong Kong for a weekend. It was raining but who cares when the shops are open till midnight and the MTR (subway) is fast and easy to understand. I strongly recommend Hong Kong to all of you, it is a brilliant city with lots of lights.

Apart from sneaker shopping I had time for the following activities (and more):
• Went to the Bruce Lee Café. Bought a Bruce Lee tie for my dad and a calendar for myself. Met the proprietor, he played big boss in first Bruce-movie.
• Did ride-a-longs with Hong Kong Police (Force of the Future) formerly Royal Police Force, now part of China.
• Bought tons of dirt cheap (pirate) Sanrio stuff and visited the Hello Kitty Café.

Sneaker Shopping
Hong Kong is NOT a cheap place to buy sneakers, which is irritating considering that they are produced next door, on mainland China. But still, it is a pleasure to shop for sneakers in Sneaker Street in Mongkok on Kowloon side. Just because there are so MANY sneaker shops. Not that the selection is that great either but at least the massive concentration of shops gives you hope -- makes you believe you might find something unique.
My friend Mikael bought nine pairs of Cortez in different colors (not available in Sweden) and my friend Pontus couldn't find anything in his size (they laughed in his face when he asked for size 12) I settled for a pair of Air Zoom Seismic. I have been on the weird-track since I bough my Electric Blue Tuned Air in Paris. The Seismics are a step further. They are W E I R D. They make your feet glitter and shine! I like the women’s model better than the men’s, because the women's laces blend in with the shoe while the men’s shoe is dark blue with bright yellow laces which looks a bit ridiculous.

The Air Zoom Seismic take some getting used to. They feel tight compared to regualar sneakers – the lacing is only for show, becuase you slip the shoes on like socks. (Nike quote:"A Lycra spandex innersleeve and a stretch Lycra outer bootie combine for a glove-like fit. With no tongue, the upper offers a complete wrap of the foot blah blah blah.)
