Your top sneaker of all time?
I like the old skool Vans. I only started liking them recently because Vans were taboo for me in the old days. When I was a skater in the 70s Vans came in "crazy colours" and were real popular with the disco-set.

Your first sneakers?
I was seven when my mom bought me a pair of rip-off Converse, off-white. I thought I was dead cool because all the other kids wore these shabby clogs. Of course, they were supposed to be shabby because they all wanted to look like the tough guys who had worn their clogs out by dragging them in the pavement when skidding with their mopeds. So kids my age would try to customize their shiny new clogs when riding their bike or using a file or whatever! But I would'nt have been caught dead in clogs...
Later on, when I did my own shopping, I got the Sperry Top- siders. They were good for skating, they had a good grip and a cool name, a sort of British-mini-Morris-type-name. They were the hottest thing with skaters in Gothenburg until Pro-Keds.

When wouldn't you wear sneakers.
I wear a suit to work and I'd never wear trainers with a suit. Although the Jam wore trainers with suits and they looked pretty cool. Converse I think it was. Converse were very cool in mod-circles back then. But in Sweden it was impossible to get hold of a pair of Converse. You were lucky if like your friend's aunt went to the States and maybe could bring back a pair. Now they have them everywere, it's a bore.

Batman AIFF(240 K)

At that time, late 70s, early 80s, trainers were very big with British fotball supporters. They had started dressing "casual" to avoid being harassed by the police who were hard on skinhead-type-looking supporters. And they became known as the "Casuals" It was very popular with fans to travel to away games on the continent. There the supporters would go on "shopping sprees", or rather,"looting expeditions". They went for high-class sportswear like Tacchini, Pringle, Lacoste and Fila. There was even a group called the "Pringle boys". Trainers were very important, not least to be able to run fast from police and rival fans, but it couldn't be any old trainers, it had to be an expensive brand name, like Adidas or Diadora. The Scottish supporters were the 'ardest, like Aberdeen. And of course the "Scallies" from Liverpool.I never liked the Casuals much though, I gravitated more towards the trainspotter-look.

Your favourite football team?
St Pauli, Fulham and Bolton. And of course Orgryte from Sweden.

Worst sneaker trend?
The most disgusting habit I know is when two guys exchange one of their trainers with each other. People who do that should be put away for life.
