Fatima, originally from Sweden, lives in London.

So, is old skool still on in London
It's over, everybody's gone over to Air Max now. I guess people were really getting tired of the old styles so when the change came people felt liberated. And the hi-tech trainers are really so much more comfortable. When I put on my old Pumas now I feel like I'm walking on nails or something. It hurts! So I guess it's a combination of fashion and feel good. It ties in with how models were supposed to look like they were on heroin and now it's changing. People are starting to have a healthier, happier look. I am curious as to what will happen next.

Your first sneakers?
I had a pair of Leijon (Swedish brand). Grey with bright yellow and velcro closing. I'd like to wear them now but they'd be to small. I had no problem convincing my dad to buy me new trainers. I guess that is one of the easiest thing for kids to make their parents get them because your feet are important. My sister is six years old and she just got a new pair of cool hi-tech trainers. Kids used to think she was a little nerd but now they're treating her different. I'ts pretty tragic that they start caring so young but that's the way it is.

Do you clean your sneakers every day.
No, because I have an exceptional ability to keep them clean without doing anything. And IF I should step in something I just get into the nearest poddle and wash it off. Although I remember how proud I was of my bright orange Puma States and then they turned brownish, London pollution, you know? By the way, isn't it great fun when your friends buy new white trainers, to jump all over them! That usually ends with a big water fight.

Fatima's trailroads are part navy blue.
She likes that a lot.

Your top sneakers of all time?
I love the ones I got on me now. Nike trailroad. They are very light and comfortable and have a bit of my favourite colour on them: navy blue. And they don't look as monstrously big as other new trainers. You know, after old skool, when all the bubbles and fluorescent design started appearing it was a bit of a shock. These were a nice cross-over for me, not too much too soon.

What do you wear with your sneakers?
I wear them with everything all the time. Sometimes, if I have to go to a fancy dinner or something, I put on dress shoes and I really hate it. But when I go clubbing I always wear trainers. I used to wear killer boots because I was afraid people would step on my feet and disable me but then I started wearing trainers and so far I've been OK.
